United States Senator

The Green, Democratic, Libertarian, Peace and Freedom, Republican, and American Independent parties all have horses in this race. To put the quality of choices in perspective, the San Francisco Chronicle has provided NO - zero, zip, zilch - endorsement for this critical seat in Congress. Wow.

Like everyone, The Chronicle sees this as a race between two opponents – Barbara Boxer and Carly Fiorina. To quote the newspaper, “It is a dismal choice between an ineffective advocate for causes we generally support and a potentially strong advocate for positions we oppose. Neither merits our endorsement for the U.S. Senate.” What this means is that Boxer has been so ineffective as an advocate for California, the publication has abandoned her.

To paraphrase the Chronicle’s assessment, Boxer is certainly not an influential senator. She is better known for her partisan politics than for her accomplishments. Although she was chair of the Environment and Public Works Committee, Boxer was not the lead on the climate change issue. The bill had become so polarized under her wing that it was shifted to John Kerry. In summary, California deserves “a senator who is accessible, effective and willing and able to reach across party lines to achieve progress on the great issues of our times. Boxer falls short on those counts.”

Fiorina deserves the opportunity to see if she can be a more effective representative for California than Boxer has been for the last eighteen years.

Carly Fiornia is my choice for United States Senator.
